he Directorate has recently published the 1st edition of the ‘Directory of Indian Importers’ which is a valuable repository of rich information on the Indian importers and their importables. The Directory is an important link in the chain of trade information.

In order to make the Directory more user friendly, importable items have been listed as per ITC(HS) chapters. We are attempting to provide information progressively at 6-digit level of disaggregation.

The Directory contains particulars of 1507 firms and some 6500 imports made by them

This Directorate has a long expertise in verifying the financial standing and credibility of firms since it has been bringing out the Directory of Indian Exporters since 1919. The Directory of Indian Importers also claims the distinction and uniqueness in this regard. Care has, in general, been taken to ensure credibility and financial soundness of the firms listed in this Directory. However, this Directorate does not guarantee or vouchsafe the same for any individual firm.

The Directory is expected to be immensely useful to the following two categories of users.

1) The producers of import substituting commodities: The Directory would help them to identify markets for their products within the country.

2) Regular importers: circulation of this Directory in India and abroad would help the regular importers to import at a more competitive price. Another attractive possibility is that of finding sellers within the country ensuring less outflow of foreign exchange.
